8:30 - 9:00 ....pre-class meeting with Cynthia in 1070 Duncan Hall

10:00 - 10:45	Logging on to Rice	Presenters, Susan and Michael	Set up your Charon accounts (rolling break during this session ....digital pics will also be taken during this session and the previous one ....Smile!)
10:45 - 11:30	Navigation & E-mail	Presenter, Michael	Basic items you need to get started Launch Netscape Navigator and Simple Text (Windows Wordpad on a PC) Look briefly at Communicator's toolbar Practice moving from Netscape to Simple Text (Wordpad) Setting up Netscape as a mail program
11:30 - 12:30	Lunch We will resume promptly at 12:30.
12:30 - 1:50	Web Pages & HTML Tags	Presenter, Susan	HTML 4 for the World Wide Web What is a Web Page? Build and test a simple page by hand. Tags you will learn about are: HTML, DOCTYPE, HEAD, TITLE, BODY, Hn, P, BR, B, I, U, CENTER, OL, UL, LI On your Own: convert a printed handout into an HTML document and view it through your browser.
1:50 - 2:00	(10-minute break)
2:00 - 2:30	More HTML, Using the GirlTECH Template	Presenter, Susan	Locate and save your GirlTECH Home Page Template to disk. (After going to this link, click on your name to view your template) Suggestion...... Check out Helpful Sites for HTML Editing View your "new" Home Page in your browser.
2:30 - 3:20	Intro to Graphics	Presenter, Michael	Introduction Copyright issues -- we'll also go in depth on this later Saving a graphic from the Web Inserting an image on a webpage
3:20 - 3:30 Homework Assignment	Read and send a 1-paragraph response to lanius@rice.edu. "IT Worker Shortage": http://www.mainfunction.com/IT/workershortage.asp cc: to msirois@rice.edu and sboone@cs.rice.edu . Complete your personal web page, in HTML format, by June 20, 2000...our next session. Save your page as an .html file, then mail a copy of it (as an attachment) to yourself, and CC your master teachers at msirois@rice.edu and sboone@cs.rice.edu Design a 3-page lesson in a subject related to your discipline. You can use the GirlTECH Lesson Template or check out this example. Bring printed copies of your lesson with you on Thursday. You will need them for your GirlTECH website. Check out these Image Archives. Warning! This is a lot of fun. It could jeopardize your sleep cycle :)
