To understand the place of frogs in our world and the implications of frog deformities


1. To be able to locate frogs in the field
2. Be able to identify your frog
3. Be able to examine the frog for deformities
4. Be able to report deformities to the proper authorities

After an introduction to frogs and frog deformities, students will go to Houston bayous, catch frogs and check them for deformities. They will then report their results to the United States Frog Deformity Bureau.

Prior knowledge

1. A general knowledge of amphibians
2. A knowledge of the basics of field reporting

Materials needed

1. Frog catching kit
2. Notebook

Time frame

This lesson unit is paced to last 5 days. Bad weather in the field may extend this time.
