Adding Sound and Video to your Webpage with Dreamweaver

Sound

  1. To add link to a sound file:
  2. Type the text that you want linked and selected. Next type the URL in the Properties Window under Link

  3. To embed sound in a page that works with Netscape and Internet explorer browsers:

    1 ) Insert you cursor anywhere on your page, i.e. at the top of the page. Next  select Insert > Media > Plugin.

    2) A select file window will open. You can now find and select the sound file you want.

    3) An icon will appear plugin icon where the sound was inserted (this icon will not appear on the internet). Select it and click on the Parameters button that appears on the Properties window to open the Parameters window.

     

    4) The attributes you need to add are pictured below. Click “+” to add  a parameter and its value. Click OK and you are done!

    • HIDDEN=“value” (true or false) hides the sound controller
    • AUTOSTART=“value” (true or false) will play the sound as soon as the page loads
    • LOOP=“value” (true or false) plays the sound continuously

Video

  1. To add link to a video file, type the following code:

    Follow the same intructions as part A above.

    Note: You might want add two formats of your video files so the internet users can play it in a PC or Mac computer, i.e. Quicktime (.mov) and Windows Media (.wmv or .avi)

  2. To embed video in a page:

1) Insert the cursor where you would like your video inserted and follow the same instructions for step 1 and 2 from Sound B above.

2) An icon will appear plugin icon where the video file was inserted . Select it and on Parameters window under Plg URL enter URL from which the user can download the necessary plug-in if it is not installed

  • For Quicktime movie: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download
  • Windows media movie: http://www.microsoft.com/Windows/MediaPlayer/

3) Next click on the Parameters button that appears on the Properties window to open the Parameters window. The attributes you need to add are pictured below. Click “+” to add  a parameter and its value. Click OK and you are done!

  • WIDTH=“value” of the movie in pixels.
  • HEIGHT=“value” in pixels (add 16 more pixels if showing controller)
  • CONTROLLER=“value” (true or false) display the movie controller
  • AUTOSTART=“value” (true or false) will play the sound as soon as the page loads
  • LOOP=“value” (true or false) plays the videocontinuously
  • If you just want to hear the sound of the movie, add HIDDEN=true and set AUTOSTART=true
