PLANETS OF THE SOLAR SYSTEM

GRADE LEVEL: 5 - 8 Grades (Of course it can be adapted to fit your needs) SUBJECT AREA: Science and Language Arts

MATERIALS: Netscape, optional texts and references

SUMMARY: In this project, the learners use the internet to research the planets in our solar system. This seems fairly standard, however there is a twist. Instead of using the typical methods of presenting a report, the learners will produce a web page with their data. I have included a templats at the end of the lesson with step-by-step instructions for each section of the project.

OBJECTIVE: To research, compile and create a web page about the planets of the solar system.

PRIOR KNOWLEDGE: Internet search strategies, basic HTML

TIME ALLOTED: 5 - 7 Days

TEMPLATE

The students will use this template to compile their planet data. Each section will list specific instructions and examples.

ALTERNATIVES

If you are unable to use the HTML format, here are some alternatives. Students could create a chart using a spreadsheet, such as the sample below. One could also use a presentation program, such as Power Point and create an individual slide for each planet.
