For the Record: Black Inventors & Inventions Teacher Guide
Timeline: 2 to 4 class periods
Description: Students will create and design a database that catalogs the inventons of African-Americans. Then they will analyze, search, sort, and print appropriate formats.
Objectives:
- To build a database customized to meet specific needs
- To analyze and manage a database
- To reasearch the Internet for specific information
- To gain knowledge of black inventors and inventions
TEKS: 120.23. Business Computer Information Systems I
- (2) The student selects appropriate technology to address business needs.
- (5) The student applies database technology. The student is expected to:
- (A) differentiate the nature and interrelationships of fields, records, and files in databases;
- (B) perform data management procedures, including:
- (i) locate, sort, and organize data;
- (ii) search and query data;
- (iii) retrieve data; and
Prerequisite Skills:
- Knows how to browse / search the Internet
- Knows database terms and concepts
How to Begin:
- Ask students how that keep track of important information.
- Have students discuss the advantages of electronic databases vs paper methods.
- Provide a glossary of database terms.
