Meiosis Chart and Model

Purpose:

To arrange chromosomes on a chart that compares mitosis and meiosis.

Materials:

scissors, tape or glue

Procedure:

  1. Cut out chromosomes in the table; cut on the lines.

  2. Correctly arrange these chromosomes in spaces 1 through 12 on the chart.

  3. Answer the questions after taping or gluing the chromosomes on the chart.

Questions:

1. Look at the parent cell and the new cells formed by mitosis. How do they compare?

2. Look at the parent cell and the new cell formed by meiosis. How do they compare?

3. Give two reasons for the differences between the new cells formed by mitosis and the new cells formed by meiosis.
