Plan a meal for a family of four.

A MATH ACTIVITY

PURPOSE:

This activity is a hands on activity and is designed to allow students to apply math skills to real world experiences.
 

OBJECTIVE:

TEK 4.3B  The student will add and subtract decimals to the hundredth place

MATERIALS:

  1. grocery store ads
  2. calculators

PROCEDURE:

  1. The student will use the ads to plan a meal for a family of four with a $25 budget.
  2. The student will use the food pyramid to be sure of a balanced meal

  4. The student will determine how much money he will have left after the purchase of his items.
  5. Each student will then write his total on the blackboard, when all figures are compiled a grand total will be calculated.
  6. Each student will then write that grand total in word form.
