HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO ARRIVE AT A DESTINATION


Your  mission is to determine the time it will take to arrive at your chosen destination.

PURPOSE:


This activity is a hands on activity and is designed to allow students to apply math skills to real world experiences.
 

OBJECTIVE:

TEK 4.3B  The student will add and subtract decimals to the hundredth place

MATERIALS: 

 
  • pencil
  • paper
  • access to the internet
  • calculator
  • map of United States
  • PROCEDURE

    1. Pick a city you wish to travel to.
    2. Check the attached site to determine the mileage.  http://www.mapquest.com
    3. After you get your mileage from mapquest use the back arrow to return to this lesson
    4. Determine the time it will take to drive that distance using 65 mph.
    5. Determine the cost of fuel using current cost of 87% octane gasoline.
    6. Do not forget to add the cost of a hotel and meals if the distance would require more than one day.
