Teacher Audience

This lesson integrates technology application skills into the second grade science kit called 'Organisms'. While in class students learn about living organisms and non-living objects by creating a live terrarium or an aquarium, observing, categorizing and drawing the organisms and making scientific predictions.

Following the Organisms unit, students work in the computer lab using technology application skills to create a drawing of the terrarium or the aquarium and word processed written paragraph. A three-dimensional construction paper mount is built to display the drawing and written paragraph. Any drawing and word processing program may be used for this project.

Students need basic keyboarding and mouse skills to manage the tools in the drawing program and word processing program. Students will need basic sentence structure skills for writing the descriptive paragraph in the word processing program.

This lesson may be adapted to any subject area and any grade level.
