DESIGN TOOL PLANNING GRID - TECHNOLOGY APPLICATIONS 2-5

FOCUS CONNECTIONS:  

  • Thinking and Using Resources of Technology – Practice Paint Tools
  • Grids, Webpages and Rubik’s Cube – what do they have in common?  

 

GOAL:

  • Program a sequence of steps to move an object to a designated ending point

 

INPUT:

1.       Guess: Where will you or the BeeBot go?

2.       Paint map grid 800 by 600 with 100 pixel size squares (older students should design this themselves in Paint)

 

PROCESS:

1.      On the Paint Grid fill squares with color to make a path.

2.      Draw an object such as a circle in the end point of the path.

3.      Record the sequence of steps to get from top left corner to the end-point.

·         Move forward including how many steps.

·         Turn Right

·         Turn Left

4.      Program the Bee-Bot with those commands.

5.      Guess where the object will end up. 

6.      Put a marker at that spot.

7.      Analyze what needs to be changed if the BeeBot did not make it to the end-point.

8.      Adjust program and try again.

 

OUTPUT / FEEDBACK:

1.       Were you successful in guessing where the BeeBot would go?

2.       How many times did it take to be successful?

3.       Did planning and thinking help save time?
