The following pages contain hundreds of links to information for everyone who cares about the education of all of our children. This site was constructed to promote a heightened awareness of the need for gender equity in education for both girls and boys.

When this idea was first presented to me, I admit that I was a little skeptical.
I wasn't sure that I knew exactly what it meant. I just kept thinking that I was
not gender biased in any way. I just couldn't possibly be gender biased, especially,
not against girls. I am the mother of a girl! However, after finding out more about
the issue and becoming more involved, I know that I have sent lots of subtle
messages that were gender-biased. There is a lack of gender equity in many areas of education around the world. It is affecting all of our children, both boys and girls. Being a middle school science teacher, my primary focus has become how gender bias affects girls in science, math, and technology. I, along with many others, believe that the lack of gender equity has created some barriers to girls and their continuing interest in science, math, and technology, both in school and in choosing careers. Their options are narrowed. Research on the factors that seem to turn girls off to these subjects and careers is full of statistics. But, to simplify, let's consider the following list of facts. |

| After learning more about the issue, I now know that being aware of and doing something to achieve gender equity in our classrooms, is of great importance.
