Oak Forest Elementary - Math Lab Teacher

Phyllis Bardo
Phyllis Bardo is an elementary math teacher in the Vanguard Program at Oak Forest Elementary, a Houston ISD Exemplary School in Northwest Houston. She is a native born Texan and has lived in Houston most of her life. She graduated from Waltrip Sr. High School in Houston, Texas and attended Concordia Jr. College in Austin, Texas and graduated from Concordia Teachers College in River Forest, Illinois with a degree in Elementary Education.

She has taught in Algonquin, Illinois; Danbury, Connecticut; Salvador, Bahia, Brazil; and Burlington, Vermont before moving back to Houston, Texas where she has been teaching for 15 years. She has taught all grades from 1-5 and currently teaches a 3-4 math lab at Oak Forest Elementary.  She has been the Family Math Night Coordinator  at Oak Forest Elementary since 1993 and the Math Lead Teacher since 1997. She is also a Master Teacher for Texteam Institute and presents math inservices for HISD. She has also written curriculum for Project Clear and Summer School 2000. She was Oak Forest Elementary Teacher of the Year in 1994 and received the Lel Red Award for Excellence In Mathematics Teaching from the Houston Council of Teachers of Mathematics in 1998.

Her primary interests are her husband and 5 children along with cross stitching, reading, and genealogy. Math has been one of her favorite subjects since 5th grade.
