My personal pyramid will take several class periods. It may include a classroom teacher working with a technology teacher. Assistants (possibly other students) familar with Microsoft Word and drawing programs would be helpful.
Working in pairs/small groups, students will go to two different websites to look at 3 different food pyramids. They will have prepared sheets to take notes. Each small group will create 3 different bookmarks in Microsoft Word (with graphics) that summarize each food pyramid.
Small groups will also compare/contrast the 3 different food pyramids using a Venn diagram. The small groups will then come together to discuss their findings. The teacher or a student can take notes and create a whole group Venn diagram.
Using a computer drawing program, the students individually or in small groups will create a mini-poster of a food pyramid of their own design that meets current nutritional standards and includes their favorite foods.
