Roller Coaster Statistics
HI! Congratulations for successfully finding this assignment. We miss you on the field trip, but I hope that you have a good time on this cybercoaster.
Research the following data and answer the following questions. You may print this page so you will have a copy of the questions, but your answers should be written on your own paper in complete sentences.
1.Name the steepest roller coaster listed. What is this coaster made of?
2. Is the steepest roller coaster the highest? Explain your answer and include the statistics to support this data.
3. Discuss whether the steepest roller coaster (disregarding what they are made of) are the fastest. What could possibly contribute to a coasters' speed?
4.Compare the highest coaster with the drop lengths listed. Do any of the statistics match the same specific roller coaster? What type of roller coaster is the highest.
5. Search for a picture of a roller coaster. Print a copy of the roller coaster. Include the name the coaster and record the URL where you found this picture. Using a ruler, carefully measure the distance from a peak to the lowest section of one of the drops of the coaster. Model the picture on graph paper and determine the slope of this particular segment of the roller coaster. Using the Pythagorean theorem and the sketch on your graph paper, calculate the distance of this particular drop. If statistics are available on this coaster, compare the actual stats with those you calculated. Explain any differences.
*BONUS* Search the WWW for your favorite roller coaster. Write a brief explanation describing why this one was your favorite. Be sure to include the URL so the class can go for a "ride" on it when we return on Monday.
This assignment needs to be completed and brought to class on Monday. Be sure that you include the URL for number 5. The other questions are answered using the statistics found on the Cyber Coaster page.
